Hell's Angels have shown their saintly side by donating stacks of food to a charity for the homeless.
The burly bikers dished out a van-full of food to the Huggard centre in Cardiff following their gathering in Leckwith over the weekend.
Outstripping the miraculous five loaves and two fish, the Angels’ donation included hundreds of bread rolls, packets of bacon, sausages, ribs, boxes of Clark’s pies and coleslaw.
The charity was in fact given so much food it was able to share the donation with two other hostels in the city.
Layton Jones, deputy chief executive of the Huggard centre, said he was surprised to receive the generous donation from the leather-clad group.
He said: “From what you see on the TV, they’re supposed to be all hard men, so when you see them caring for other people it does touch you a bit.”
Mr Jones received a call from the Hell’s Angels on Sunday, asking if the centre would like a food donation.
Some of the motorcycle club’s members then drove to the homeless centre in a van loaded with leftover food from their weekend get-together.
Mr Jones said: “There was quite a lot of stuff. You name it, it was there – and quite a big quantity as well.”
And despite feeding between 60 and 100 people every day, the charity was able to share the food with Bute Street’s Salvation Army and The Wallich on Broadway.
The Angels said they loaded their van full of food after realising how much they had left over.
The group’s UK spokesman told the Echo: “We rang them up and asked them about it, and they were just chuffed to bits.”
About 400 bikers from across the UK and Ireland descended on Leckwith over the weekend for the club’s annual convention.
Concerns had been raised by some businesses after the police allegedly warned them to secure their properties ahead of the biker bash – a claim denied by officers.
But South Wales Police and the Angels have said the weekend event passed off without incident.
The Angels spokesman, nicknamed “Echo”, said: “There is a perception of what the Hell’s Angels are. People who know us know that is it completely false.”
Speaking about their good deed, he added: “Generally, we don’t really care what people think and that’s why we don’t really make a big fuss about the charity stuff that we do.
“In this case it would be a crime to waste all that stuff and we decided to give it to people who were in need.”
